The source of the information is unknown, but needless to say, the cancellation comes as a surprise for many in the industry, especially given the initial reports of said cards arriving before year’s end. To recap, it was hinted that NVIDIA would launch an RTX 3080 20GB variant and RTX 3070 16GB graphics cards, as a response AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs that are set to make their debut on 28 October. At the time of writing, there’s still no official reason being given for the alleged cancellation, and NVIDIA is neither confirming nor denying the news. That said, one source close to Videocardz seems to suggest that the RTX 3080 20GB may have been scrapped due to low GDDR6X yield issues.
On that note, there’s also the possibility that the cancellation could be due to another rumour, where NVIDIA is planning on refreshing its GeForce RTX 30 series with TSMC’s 7nm process node, replacing the current 8nm process node made by Samsung. That said, it’s still looking very likely PC gamers will be seeing the rumoured GeForce RTX 3060 Ti hit the shelves, which is expected to be announced by NVIDIA sometime in the middle of November.
